New

  • • A full-screen daily verse now greets you the first time you open the Bible each day, over a photo that changes daily. Tap anywhere, or use Explain, to continue.
  • • The Prayer Lock, Focus Mode, and Accountability Lock screens now show Jesus walking with a lamb, instead of a dark candlelit room.
  • • The breathing exercise before the prayer screen is gone. "I've Prayed" becomes tappable after 15 seconds instead, so there's a moment to actually pray or ask Matu first.
  • • Focus Mode shows a notification while it's running, "Focus Mode active, back at 14:30", so you can tell your phone is still locked and when it opens up again.
  • • The tour you get when you start a trial, and the first-run walkthrough, now let you tap the real menu and Lock tab yourself. Both work the same on iPhone as on Android now.
  • • Bible search remembers your recent searches. Tap one to run it again, or clear the list.
  • • "Your Walk" is now a card you can tap, with separate calendars for reading and for prayer, so you can see which one you're actually keeping up with.

Fixed

  • • "Rate Matu" in Profile now opens the App Store review page on iPhone.
  • • "Continue with Google" on Android signs you in, instead of bouncing back with no explanation.
  • • "I've read the Bible" only checks off once you've actually read through a chapter, not just from having the app open.
  • • A rare garbled character that could appear mid-word in one of Matu's replies is now cleaned up before it's saved.

New

  • • The Bible now works offline. Pick a translation in the translation picker, download it once, and every chapter opens with no connection. Chapters you read and habits you tick offline are saved and land on the day you actually read them. Your streak no longer goes backwards after a flight.
  • • Journal is on the bottom bar. Every verse you highlight, love or note collects there, one tap from anywhere. Notes moved into the Bible menu, where you reach for it while reading.
  • • Tapping the morning verse notification now opens that verse. Previously it could open a different one. Subscribers get their own personalized verse named in the notification rather than the general one.

Fixed

  • • Poetry reads properly again. Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Isaiah and Lamentations had their lines running together. Nearly every verse in Psalms was affected.
  • • Highlights, loved verses and notes no longer look saved when they weren't. If a change can't be saved, it's undone in front of you with a short message.
  • • Verse references Matu sends now open in the Bible reader in every language. Portuguese and Estonian were showing them as plain text.
  • • Matu no longer sends you to another Bible app or to Google to read Scripture, and no longer implies that reading the Bible in Matu costs money. It's free, and always has been.
  • • Ask Matu for a verse, a reading list or a plan and you get one. It used to answer some of those with a question instead.
  • • The "Welcome to Matu" note is now in your language. Spanish, Estonian and French readers were being given the English one.
  • • Setting up is one screen shorter. Matu asks about notifications after you've seen the app, not in the middle of signing up.

  • • Bible full-text search. Type a word and find every verse containing it, in any translation you're reading. Works for Estonian, French, Spanish and more.
  • • Daily Verse history for subscribers. Past personalized verses are browsable from the daily verse card.
  • • Matu now lets you know when a newer version is available on the App Store or Play Store.

Notes

  • • Notes have caught up with Notion and Obsidian. Add images, extended Markdown, and YouTube links.
  • • Everything you write is searchable. Type "Paul" and get back every note that mentions Paul, instantly.
  • • Tags. Link verses using your own categories: Gospels, Romans, Jesus, Stress, Money & Finances, whatever fits how you think.
  • • Backlinks between the Bible reader and the Journal. In the reader, you can now see which verses you've mentioned in your notes.
  • • Export any note and share it anywhere: Gmail, Drive, Dropbox. Or export your whole library locally.
  • • Already using Notion or Obsidian? Bring your notes into Matu.

AI chat

  • • 120+ theological and open questions the AI can now answer.
  • • Conversation starters follow what you said during onboarding. Pick "just curious" and you'll see questions like "Is Christianity really true?"; pick "lifelong" and you'll get prayer and purpose.
  • • Chats stay visible permanently, instead of being deleted after 24 hours.

Progress

  • • Spiritual health meter. Each day you can mark prayer and Bible reading as done. Skip a few days and your health drops. You'll see it on the dove.

Bible & language

  • • Full French and Spanish support throughout onboarding and the app.
  • • Estonian now has full New Testament book support.
  • • Bible translation is picked for you automatically based on your region. German, French, Spanish, Swedish and 10+ other languages are available.

Fixed

  • • Email sign-in now works.
  • • You can leave the app while Matu is replying and come back to the finished message.
  • • Layout fixed on narrow screens (iPhone 8 and similar).
  • • Onboarding no longer asks for gender, age, or how long you've been a believer.
